end of year show

Our end of year show was on Friday the 6th june. The shop was open from 5.30 for the public and family and friends to come in and look at the two classes work from the past two years. We had printed our badges, posters, flyers and a brochure which we handed out. These were titled "Off The Grid" which is this years theme.

The show is located in Long market Canterbury Town Center in a little shop, which the two years and the tutors worked hard to transform from a dance studio into a studio to broadcast the students work. Each student got allocated enough space to have 1 design printed to A1, so that week was also spent touching up our favorite pieces to print.

FMP

Our final project was the FMP.
We had to write our own brief which was a breath of fresh air as it gave us so much more freedom and independence.
My brief was to design a PR campaign for the metal core band "Sincerity"
I am to design the merchandise, create some posters, new logo, artwork and a website.
Here's some of my outcomes:

Im extremely proud of how these have come out. I defiantly feel like I have improved over this project on its own.

Packaging Project

For the packaging project, we had to find a brand that needed re vamping, I chose Old Spice, this was because I personally am not a fan of the ugly red they use as the main colour of the brand. They try and portray quite a posh image to the brand but I think their packaging looks quite tacky. My challange is to turn it around using its logo still so people still recognise it, but turn it into something that looks more up market.

Illustration project

For the illustration project I wanted to do something slightly different to the usual illustrator work. The brief was to design 3 posters using 3 different lines from a Poem or Book and use turn it into imagery. I chose to do Lord Of The Rings as its one of my favourite stories. This being quite a dark book, i decided to look into artist Dan Mumford as he has such an inspirational style to his work.

                                                               Dan Mumford's work

He uses a wacom tablet to its full potential using black and white space very well to creat such an atmospheric piece of art.
I wanted to adapt his style and way of thought and incorporate my style to create a series of artwork that suites the book.

The three lines I chose were:

- Three Rings For The Elven-Kings Under The Sky
- One For The Dark Lord on His Dark Throne
- Nine For Mortal Men Doomed To Die

I deicded to use a mixture of Wacom Tablet and Photoshop effects and techniques.

Here's my outcomes:

Really really chuffed with how these came out, i have never tried anything like this before and most defiantly will be working on this style of graphics to improve on it.

End of Year Website

On a Wednesday morning, we have time to work on our end of year website. This website is a portfolio for the work we have completed inside and outside of College to show how much we have grown in the course.
I have finished all my pages and Today, Neil came round to me to give me a hand with converting it from Photoshop to Flash so I can display it at the end of the year.
I hope to have something that's visually pleasing and interactive.
So far I have completed the Home page and made a start on the About page, hopefully I can finish it off next week!

Brighton Trip

The Wednesday after half term Rob had arranged for us to go down to Brighton to do some research for our FMP.
Prior to the trip I had looked into reliant music stores and musical equipment stores that I could visit and try and get a hold of information regarding music.
It was nice to go somewhere new as all our previous trips were to London!
On my way to the big music store that I wanted to visit, I came across a handful of alternative stores such as Independent stores and a Vans store. I went inside and had a look around to get a general feel to the alternative fashion.
I managed to pick up some free flyers to look at as well as some advice from the members of staff on their opinion on alternative music and how it ties in with their clothes.
I finally managed to get to GAK, so i went inside and had a look, I tried a guitar out and had a convocation with the man serving me, he himself was into his alternative music so gave me some great advice.

FMP

We recently started our Final Major Project.
For this we had to write our own briefs so I decided to re design the Ad campaign for a band called Sincerity. I will be designing them a new logo, website, poster, merchandise, promotional photos and facebook banner.
I want to use this opportunity to broaden my skills in design. I want to be using different mediums that I don't usually use to create my work, something I have wanted to use is a brush pen. so I intend to buy myself a brush pen and teach myself how to use it, and then use this skill to design my own logo with it.
It will also be a good time to read new books and look into work that I have always admired and find out the artist who created them and looking into them.
This will also be a good time to use the skills I already have and strengthen them.
I'm looking forward to being independent with this project as it will test my ability and I'm looking forward to be able to look into my chosen subject and finding more out about it.
